Focus testers Wanted: Halfbrick Needs You!

Have you ever wondered what makes some games more fun than others?

One of the main factors in making a game fun is that the Production Company has extensively Focus tested the game to get outside opinions for whether it is enjoyable, interesting and, if not, why?

Q: What is Focus testing?

It is a process of allowing select members of the general public to play a game that is in production.

Q: Why does Halfbrick Focus test?

We need to learn if the game plays well, is fun and will be popular in the existing market.

Q: Why do we want YOU?

With your honest feedback we can find out if the game is fun, exciting and, if not, why?

We then use that information to alter the game accordingly, in order to make the game as rewarding and successful as possible.

Q: What do you get out of Focus testing?

You will get the opportunity to see and play a game before anyone else, before most people even know it is going to be released!

You will also be given the option of whether you would like to be included in the game Credits for being a tester of the title during development!

Although Focus testing at Halfbrick is voluntary, you will enjoy this unique opportunity!

Q: What if you don’t play games much or not at all?

No problem, we need to Focus test individuals of all ages, gender, and levels of skill, this also includes people who never play games!

By covering a broad range of people we can attain a more accurate indication of the future success of our games.

Q: What will happen with the information that you put in the Focus testing Register Questionnaire?

Your personal details are kept confidential at all times and are stored, on site, at Halfbrick.

Your information and questionnaire answers are added to our Focus testing database.

This information is used to group you for specific Test categories e.g. we need to test using the following criteria: Hardcore Gamer, Male, aged 18-24.

We can then search groups of gamers by every question outlined in the questionnaire.

Q: What if you don't live in Brisbane, Queensland?

Unfortunately all of our Focus testing is held on site, therefore, we are only searching for Focus testers from the South East Queensland region.

Q: What will happen on the day of the Focus test?

The date and time of the Focus test will be communicated to you in advance.

Upon arrival you will complete a NDA (Non disclosure agreement); this document maintains the confidentiality of our games and publishers, as we like to keep our titles a surprise for their release! This is only a minor part of the overall testing experience. If you are under the age of 18, a parent/guardian must be present to sign the necessary documentation on your behalf.

You will then be introduced to the other Focus testers.

A brief explanation of the game will be given and then the fun begins!

Once the session is completed you will be asked a series of questions to gauge your enjoyment and relay any possible impediments in the game.

You will be immersed in our relaxed environment for approximately 2 hours.

Oh, and by the way, there will be lollies!

Q: What if you are not sure you can spare the time?

As mentioned above, Focus testing only takes approximately 2 hours.

We also have the flexibility of working around a time that suits you.

There is no obligation to say yes, you can decline if you are busy. Don’t worry; this will not affect your chances of being contacted again!

Q: How long will it be before you get to test something?

As with the flexible and evolving nature of the games Industry, we could need your assistance tomorrow or not until next year.

Focus testing rests solely on the titles in current production, if your information doesn’t match the game in production, you may not be contacted, on the positive side, if they do match we could be contacting you shortly!
