Fruit Ninja Anniversary Tour - Meet the Grand Finalists

Halfbrick took Australia by storm last week with a massive tour to find the nation’s best Fruit Ninja players! Live events were held in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne with huge turnouts across all three cities.

Competition was fierce as competitors young and old battled for a spot at the Sydney grand final where a trip to Japan is up for grabs. The events also marked two amazing years on the App Store and the chance for Halfbrick to give back to its loyal and awesome supporters.

The tour kicked off in Brisbane’s Queen St Mall, just a few kilometres from Halfbrick’s birthplace and home studio. Fans turned out in force and put the 32 iPads through a serious workout in search of glory.

Scores shifted regularly throughout the day until Ali Usman set a cracking score of 1413 mid-afternoon. Halfbrick employees were quick to declare Ali the probable winner before Cong Su took everyone by surprise with an amazing score of 1477!

BRISBANE CHAMPION – CONG SU

The action then continued at Sydney’s Darling Harbour with NovaFM alongside to experience the fun. Every visitor again scored a free copy of the latest Fruit Ninja update and fans walked away with free shirts, plushies and more.

Tashi Angmo rose to the occasion and claimed the best score of the day with 1389 points! This capped off a truly action packed day which also saw students from Hornsby North Public School treated to a very special excursion.

SYDNEY CHAMPION – TASHI ANGMO

Melbourne’s Federation Square played host to the final live event and there was much hype to live up to. Thankfully, fans turned out in droves and brought the fun despite freezing weather and pockets of rain.

All walks of life were on display as wise, elderly ninjas rubbed shoulders with 6-year-old King Dragon Le who scored 1000+ on a regular basis. Some players even flew from other states, showing just how dedicated the Fruit Ninja fan base is.

No one could stop Jess Nunn, though, who claimed a last minute victory with a score of 1466! This put an end to the stunning qualifying rounds and wrapped up an amazing week of sweet, tasty destruction!

MELBOURNE CHAMPION – JESS NUNN

The stage is now set for an epic grand final showdown where Australia’s Fruit Ninja Master will be crowned! Our awesome finalists have been flown in from around the country, where their highest scores over three 10 minute rounds will determine who wins a ninja trip for two to Japan!

This special VIP event will be attended by local industry media, developers and more, all keen to witness a piece of Australian gaming history in the making. We’ll have a full recap of the event tomorrow, so check back soon to find out who wins!!--Want to relive all the action from the tour? Check out live photoblogs from each city below!
