Halfbrick launches AR thriller Shadows Remain

Halfbrick releases first chapter of free augmented reality thriller on the App Store

AUSTRALIA, Brisbane – November 15, 2017 – The creators of Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride are proud to present an unparalleled plunge into the depths of darkness with Shadows Remain – a sinister, story-driven adventure which will keep players guessing as they follow journalist Emma Winters on a desperate journey to rescue her only son from malevolent forces.

By exploring augmented reality’s many capabilities, Halfbrick has created an experience that players can truly be a part of. Physical movements in the real world are used to control the game’s dynamic camera, allowing audiences to study their surroundings, shift perspective, and solve devious optical illusions which push the story forward. Shadows Remain also uses Apple’s AR Kit to blur the line between entertainment and reality, creating an immersive experience dripping with atmosphere. Intricate 3D environments hide cryptic clues and mind-bending puzzles around every corner. Each one will shed light on a chilling tale of betrayal and neglect set across several distinct time periods. Much like Fruit Ninja, Shadows Remain was created within the confines of an internal game jam spanning just one week. A small team – led by principal programmer Ali Mohebali –  then transformed the prototype into a cinematic experience which has been tailor-made for augmented reality. The result is a twisted, paranormal puzzler unlike anything in the studio’s portfolio. "Shadows Remain is a huge departure for Halfbrick," said Halfbrick CEO Shainiel Deo. "The tone of the original prototype caught everyone off-guard, myself included, but there was something about this concept that just had to be explored. It’s different to anything we’ve ever done, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes us. "Shadows Remain is an episodic adventure which will be released over the course of approximately one year. The opening chapter is available November 16th as a free download on the App Store for compatible devices running iOS 11. Subsequent chapters will be made available via in-app purchase.
